1934 Gold Certificate


Printed only during a 23 day span in late 1934 and early 1935, the 1934 $100,000 Gold Certificate was the first and only currency note of its denomination. It was also the highest enomination U.S. Currency note ever prouced. Only 42,000 notes were printed, but togather they accounted for a total face value of $4.2 billion. When it was issued, each $100,000 Gold Certificate was backed by $100,000 in gold bullion that was held by the U.S. Treasury.
